Remove yourself from our mailing list

July 12, 2005

Hi. Nick here again. We had pretty good luck with our first newsletter. Only one person removed herself from our mailing list, but then she wrote back the next day to say she just wanted it sent to a different email address. So there's that.
Anyway, let's move on to the contents of newsletter numbah two, shall we?

Recent Accomplishments:
Check out our Current Issue. It's a doozie.

Accomplishment #2:
Big A Surf Off held July 3: Actually it was the Nesowadnehunk Falls Surf Off, but wherever it's held, this annual Penobscot Paddler get-together is a wicked good time... For the second year running, We had sun, we had whitewater, we had friends, and this time, we had the Big Hole … yeah you could say it was worth rating as "way better than school." Here's a photo from the event.

Accomplishment #3:
Surfed the Kennebec's Big Momma for a good ride on July 2… That wave has always been elusive for me. Yay me!

Accomplishment #4:
Discovered http://www.games.com. I play Scrabble. My handle is wayne420. Challenge me to a game sometime. I'll smoke you like a sausage.

Bummer #1:
Late subscriptions! We apologize for this and we're doing our best to make sure it doesn't happen again. This is the first issue I've had my printer's postpress department handle the mailing out of subscriptions, and right now it's not cool.
I chose to do this because I can use their mass mailing permit and because, frankly, I have no great mastery of the secretarial arts.
However, I have been receiving your emails about late subscriptions and I called my printer and the post office and here's what I have found:

My printer dropped the issues off at the Lewiston post office, each stamped presort standard, on June 28. They were then sent to the mail processing plant in Portland. According to Louise of the Lewiston USPS, the Portland plant was undergoing a "scheme change", where the whole plant introduced a new way to sort mail, just as the No Umbrellas arrived. She surmised that this change, in conjunction with it being the end of the month and a holiday, might be the reason why No Umbrella became backlogged. But they are gone from Lewiston and hopefully they'll be arriving at your house today!
I apologize for this delay and I will be taking further measures in the future to make sure that this does not become a habit. If you have still not received your issue, call or email me and I'll send you one out.
Thanks for your overwhelming patience and understanding.

Upcomings and goings:
Issue Three (August 2005) is in the works! Issue 3 will feature articles about Canoe Trails, the Helix playboating move, forty-somethings switching from canoes to WW kayaks, and raft guiding on the Rapid River.

Camp Kodiak Convergence 2005 (our annual summer rafting party) is August 20 and 21 in The Forks.
As of today, 73 people have secured their spot for this, the party of the summer. There are just 192 tickets. Learn how to get tickets here.
