Details:
Is there a restriction to the type of content like who, or where, or what?
The content of images is only loosely restricted to paddlesports, outdoor sports, or Maine wilderness scenery. Acceptable images can be of locations anywhere in Maine. Get creative. The best photo is the not based on the quality of the contents of the photo, but the quality of the shot. All submissions must be original photographs, no compositions using high tech computer gear, techies.
Can underwater images be sent?
Yes!
Who owns the copyright of the images selected in the contest?
As the owner of the image you may copyright your image as you see fit whenever you have it printed or published. You still own the image: We just want to use it once, if you win. You still have all the rights to the image, to do with it what you please.
Can photographs taken with a 35mm camera be submitted to the contest?
Yes, but the scanned resolution needs to be high enough for printing quality purposes. 300dpi or higher, please.
I shoot 35mm slides, but some of my pictures are in print format, is it ok to send prints or slides?
Please send prints only. We can scan prints without too much trouble, but we do not have a slide scanner. It might be best for you to develop your images or scan them and email to us.
Will my photo get a fair judgment since you prefer digital?
Absolutely, the judges are looking for the best photograph to put in the No Umbrella. They don't care how the image was shot, just that it is good! If your best work is on prints, by all means send it in.
I shoot only print film, should I send the negatives, prints, or both?
Please do not send negatives!
What is the ehtry fee?
$5. Each entrant will also receive a paddling t-shirt.
I shoot mostly black & white outdoor scenic photography, is this acceptable for the contest?
Black & White images are acceptable.
I live outside of the United States can I still enter the contest?
Sure! We accept entries from all over the world, as long as you were in Maine when you took the photo.
Do I have to fill out a separate entry form for each image I send in?
No. You may submit up to five images for your $5 entry fee.
We still recommend email for both of our conveniences. Or if not yours, ours.
How can I be sure you have received my entries?
The simplest way is to email us.
How will I be notified if I am a winner?
You will see your huge photo in the December issue of No Umbrella.
Is this contest open to amateur and professional photographers?
Yes, there are no restrictions as to who can enter.
Is one type of image or picture composition preferred over others?
No, as long as the photo at least loosely falls into the categories mentioned above.
If I submit several photos, can several photos be considered for "the best"?
Sure, we will consider all submissions, even if you are one of those people who likes all of their shots, and submits their entire portfolio. Please, let's try and keep those to a minimum, as our judges do actually have jobs to go to.
