Section Proposals Sought
Get paid to write and gather stories about your favorite stuff!

It is our vision at No Umbrella to serve as a resource for aspiring Maine writers. We want to take the regular submission process one step further and extend an offer to writers in the state:
Send us a proposal on a topic you enjoy writing about. If we like your proposal, we will give you the title of "Section Editor" and you will be part of our team.

Here are a few sample ideas:
"Dear No Umbrella-
If you'd have me, I'd like to create a section in No Umbrella called 'Loopin' with Bill and Steve' where each issue we drive a loop on Maine's back roads and take photos of cool stuff we see.
It would be a hoot."

or

"Dear No Umbrella-
My section idea is one for tandem bicycling. Each issue I could gather stories about tandem bicycling, tandem bicycling trips, tips and technique, and fellow tandem bicyclists. It would be great."

or

"Dear No Umbrella-
I am an avid canoe racer. I think you need better racing coverage in your paper. I humbly request the opportunity to become the canoe racing section editor..."

or

"Dear No Umbrella-
I am a high school rock climber and whitewater paddler. I think No Umbrella needs more coverage of high school athletes in the outdoors. I have many friends throughout the state who would be interested in writing in this section..."

and so on.
This opportunity is open to anyone. To apply, please send a proposal letter, along with another piece of writing to:
