Maine Outdoor Adventure Club

Ongoing
The Maine Outdoor Adventure Club's Progressive Hiking Series ensures that every weekend year round there is a hike offered to members at progressively more difficult levels. A level one hike is offered the first weekend of the month. Hikes become increasingly more difficult each week, and are offered in both Maine and New Hampshire.
Progressive level one hikes are easy, with less than a 1,000-foot elevation gain. They are half-day hikes that progress at a slower pace and are more social. These hikes are for beginners and people who just want to get outside and may not have the entire day to devote to hiking.
Progressive level two hikes will have less than a 2,000-foot elevation gain, and are light to moderate half-day hikes. These trips are for those who have hiked before and are ready for some elevation and a bit more mileage.
Progressive level three trips consist of moderate all day hikes that are longer and higher than level two, with more elevation gain. Level three hikes are for those who are comfortable with the terrain of level two hikes and are ready for an all day outing.
Progressive level four hikes feature a 4,000-foot mountain, or comparable hike, in terms of difficulty. Level four hikes are difficult and strenuous. Unless otherwise stated by the leader, level four hikes are for the experienced hiker who can move at a faster pace and is looking for a full day workout.
The Progressive Hiking Series "Core of Four" coordinates hike leaders each month. These leaders choose the hike, set the pace, decide the limit of hikers, screen participants as to prior experience, and decide if dogs are welcome.
MOAC is a member driven outdoor adventure club. Meetings are held in Portland and Bangor. With over 700 members, the club is always looking for new adventures and leaders. Nancy Dorrans is the current president of MOAC and can be reached at president@moac.org

Pine Tree Society
www.pinetreesociety.org
June 2-3
The Pine Tree Society, a non-profit organization out of Bath, is celebrating its 10th year of bringing paddlers together from all over the state for the fundraiser known as Paddle for Pine Tree Camp. In 1997, the Paddle for Pine Tree Camp began with a handful of kayakers and canoeists on the Kennebec River. In celebration of its 10th year, the event will go back to the Kennebec River. This year, Paddle for Pine Tree Camp will feature two trips. The first will be Friday, June 2. It will be a sunset paddle from Bingham to Solon. On Saturday, June 3, the event will consist of a morning paddle from Solon to North Anson, followed by a celebratory barbecue. A shuttle service will be provided at both locations. Maine guides and expert volunteers will act as escorts on both trips. Paddle sites are accessible and are appropriate for paddlers of all skill levels. Paddlers raise money for Pine Tree Camp by collecting pledges per mile or accepting straight contributions. All money raised will go directly to Pine Tree Camp, a summer camp for Maine children and young adults with disabilities.
Pine Tree Camp, a program of Pine Tree Society, was established in 1945 as a summer therapy outlet for children with disabilities. Over the years, it has evolved into an innovative barrier-free environment offering fully accessible recreation to Maine people with disabilities. Pine Tree Camp is committed to welcoming anyone who could benefit from the experience, regardless of his or her ability to pay tuition. For more information contact Erin Rice at 443-3341 or info@pinetreesociety.org.
