In Remembrance of River Friends

Jamie Lea Linscott, 20, died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, in Jackman. She was born Jan. 31, 1986, in St. Petersburg, Fla., eight weeks early and ready to start life. She was a graduate of Stearns High School, Class of 2004, and Eastern Maine Community College with a diploma in health care secretary, Class of 2006. Jamie was active in Girl Scouts throughout middle school and Medical Explorers, Millinocket. In high school, Jamie was active in the band and show choir, and earned her spending money as a cashier at Pangburn’s IGA, Millinocket. During her senior year, she earned her Level I Whitewater Guide License in May 2004 and earned her Level II Whitewater Guide License for the Penobscot River in June 2006. Jamie was employed by Professional River Runners in The Forks since 2004 as a guide and office assistant, attending college during the winter months. This past fall, she began taking courses in the veterinarian technician program at the University College, Bangor. Jamie was anticipating the upcoming rafting season and was planning a 25-day rafting expedition of the Grand Canyon in February. She packed her life with all that life had to offer and she will be greatly missed by all whose life she touched. “See you on the river.” -
Jamie is survived by her mother, Debbie and her husband, David Bradford, of Millinocket; her brother, Jeremy Linscott of Millinocket and Pensacola, Fla.; her father, James Linscott and his companion, Debbie Mayo, of Trenton; stepbrothers, Larry Bradford and his wife, Karen, of Millinocket, Donald “Donny” Bradford and his wife, LouAnn, of East Millinocket; maternal grandparents, Eugene and Cynthia Martin of Millinocket; paternal grandparents, Sidney and Rita Linscott of Trenton; a very special friend, David Tanzer of West Forks; three uncles and their families, Bob Martin and his wife, Debbie, Gene Martin and his wife, Ruth, and Mike Martin and his wife, Tonya; and several aunts, uncles and cousins too numerous to list. Jamie will also be missed by close friends, Jessica, Jennifer, Laura, Ashley, Christel, Karen, Chelsey, Nikki, and Julie, and all of her river friends - you know who you are.
Jamie was to turn 21 the week after she passed. She was planning to celebrate her 21st birthday with a party at the Marshall Hotel. The party was held in her honor anyway, with about 45 friends and family , making for a big party. There was a cake with her picture; happy birthday was sung and a toast for Jamie was given; there was dancing and laughing and crying. There was a DVD with highlights of her rafting career, which also included some of her funny antics for the crowd. This was played over and over. It was obvious Jamie relished her rafting career and her life. Even at such a young age, Jamie had a spirit for living life to the fullest. We will all miss her.
