"Last year on the first Dead release I hit the big hole near Elephant Rock. It threw me into the middle thwart. I landed all my weight on my paddle and it broke in two.
Later a kayaker comes by with a paddle just like mine. I used it for the trip and left messages around town, but nobody claimed it, so I kept it."
